Hongkong - The other side of China

At last, we went out of China, at least that’s how it felt. We spend 47 days in de madness of too many people per square meter. In HONGKONG are still too many people per square meter. But, a big but, people care for one another again. And above all, people speak English, we can read all the food menus and know what we are ordering and best of all a new couch surf experience.

We came to Hong Kong from Shenzen airport and took a bus to an apartment complex were our new host was waiting on our arrival. Again, we were surprised by the warm welcome we got from our host Eddy in his nice comfy Hong Kong appartment. For the next 3 nights we had to adjust sleeping in a 1 person bed from wall to wall with a length of 1.70m. Imagine me (Tom, nearly 2 meter) together with Nina in this bed. It was something new haha, but we made it.

Hong Kong is amazing, a big melting pot of cultures, loads of expats and somehow it reminded me a little bit of the Netherlands. During our first day we explored the historical route of Hong Kong, where the English colony had started: Hong Kong Island. First we noticed how small it actually is, everything was walkable. The second thing was, all the different kinds of cuisines to be explored (always on the lookout for a good meal), and finally we were surprised how beautiful Hong Kong actually is.

On our second day we went on a trip with our host Eddy who was at work the previous day. That day Eddy was nice enough to provide me with a new nickname, called: Hodor. People watching Game of Thrones will know enough. Not entirely sure if it’s a compliment or…  However, we went on a cable car through the mountains and over the sea to the Big Buddha. Walking, talking, drinking, eating & having fun together. Again amazed how fun couch surfing actually is and truly happy that we tried it in China for the first time and surely not the last. In the evening we went out for dinner with Eddy, who truly know the best places to eat in the city. Somehow, after all this time, I was in the need of Sushi. Nina and I LOVE sushi. He knew just the place and was excited that finally he had surfers over who were not vegetarian and would eat themselves crazy full on all you can eat sashimi. Until our stomachs were to painful, filled on big chunks of salmon and more we went to a market and back to the apartment.

Two days Hong Kong, not nearly enough! Need to go back someday? YES
