My love and hate relationship with Pai

The sourroundings of Pai (Northern Thailand) are just so beautiful. Right in the middle of the mountains and it's green everywhere. It's just great to have the freedom of a scooter and drive around wherever you want.

There is just one problem: the new generation of backpackers (I don't want to call myself that) is ruining it for me. People who walk around with their trolleys, looking for the best place to get a wifi connection and to get hammered. Why are you going in the middle of nowhere to party, do drugs and get shitfaced? It is too beautiful here for any of this. Somehow everyone who is here thinks they are a hippie. Weird!

It's not that I'm against partying or drinking, but it's just so annoying that some people only seem to care about that. Even the locals who earn their money with the tourists are annoyed and seemingly unhappy by the place that  Pai became. Pai has lost it's charme and adjusted to the party crowd. Which is such a shame.

During the day you will find so many people walking around with bandages around their knees and elbows. Of course it's not safe to ride a scooter when you are drunk or hungover and don't even drive a bike at home.

We found a great solution which is a cute and silent bungalow 10km outside of the towns really in the middle of nowhere. Pai, I love your scenery and your charme as a hippy town. Low season, the place to be! Another great solution, drive up and away!
